When GTA 6 was announced in December 2023 along with its first trailer, it was slated for release on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. The absence of a PC confirmation was a letdown for many but not entirely unexpected given Rockstar’s history. In a recent interview at the TD Cowen 52nd Annual Technology, Media & Telecom Conference, Zelnick addressed the missing PC version along with other questions about GTA and the company’s overall strategy. During the talk, the host highlighted that GTA V has generated approximately $10 billion in bookings since its launch, a figure Zelnick seemed to agree with, calling it “simple math.” The discussion then shifted to GTA VI, with the host asking, “When you think about GTA VI and what you’ve seen they’re working on, are you confident that this franchise can take another leap forward in terms of its revenue and its reach?”
Zelnick’s response was insightful, emphasizing the evolution of the gaming landscape since the launch of GTA V. He noted, “The world is a different place than when we did launch GTA V. What came before at that point was IV, we had some downloadable add-on content, there was no online version.” Although GTA IV did have an online mode, it wasn’t as expansive as “GTA Online.”
The brief mention of GTA 7 has already fueled fan speculation about possible settings for the next installment. Enthusiasts are suggesting locations such as New York City or Las Venturas, which have either been underexplored or absent in previous games.
This speculation was further amplified by the community’s optimism about Rockstar’s future plans.
