Social media like Facebook, Twitter , Instagram will have to face a ban only if they don’t comply with the new intermediary guidelines . The guidelines have to be accepted by may 25 as per the statement laid by the government . In Feb 21 , the ministry of electronics and information technology had given a 3 month time to social media platforms to comply with new IT rules . Those social media platforms will have to appoint compliance officers from india . The appointed officer will monitor and examine the complaints and contents and remove if it is considered to be objectionable .
Facebook made a statement stating that they will comply with the provisions and will discuss few issues and that they need engagement with the government . The new provisions have raised concern about how encrypted messaging apps will function in the country .
