Nick Jonas Revives Princess Diaries Dialogue for Priyanka Chopra in Throwback Video, Fans Respond with Affection

Some celebrity relationships appear to be in their own universe, with red carpets more like a form of extension of a personal relationship than a job. With Priyanka Chopra, Nick Jonas‘ relationship is one of those few that have been able to navigate the celebrity landscape without losing its moments of tenderness. This week, Jonas was reminded of why he’s so captivating to fans as he posted a throwback from the Golden Globes 2026, which went viral on social media.

The clip he posted on Instagram is from what looks like a hotel room as the two couples get ready for the awards ceremony. The setting is somewhat rustic. It’s not the perfectly lit red carpet or the photo call that’s been set up. Rather, it’s the stillness before the storm, when cufflinks are tied, gowns are buttoned, and couples spend a few moments together, not in the spotlight of the flashing cameras. Priyanka is in her stunning blue off the shoulder gown, with Nick standing next to her, taking her picture with a smile on his face. It was the audio overlay which really got the web buzzing. The quote that Jonas selected, “Princess look out the window, welcome to Genovia,” is from the 2001 movie The Princess Diaries. He only put up a blue heart as the caption, which leaves the meaning for the pictures and the quote.

This wasn’t shocking news for longtime fans of the couple. Nick and Priyanka have made a name for themselves with selective snippets of their life together, but nothing too much and nothing too little. This particular post was resonating and it was timely. The Golden Globes 2026 appearance had already built up the excitement, as Priyanka caught the eyes with her blue dress, off the shoulder Dior gown and Bulgari jewellery, while Nick looked the part in his classic tuxedo and bow tie. The throwback video gave it an intimacy, because it was a memorable night and having this moment be a throwback video made it feel more like a private moment made public, which is exactly what I think it was.

Social media fans responded in a timely – and enthusiastic – fashion. One person commented that “Princess is now a Queen” and others added other words, such as saying Priyanka is a “royalty” or “eternal icon”. One of the common comments in the answers was the need for more of these couple moments. A true hunger for unscripted moments was seen, with many followers commenting on the “good bonding” they had seen in the brief video. It’s significant that this is a public response. The unpolished love in a 30 second video is something revolutionary in a world of endlessly polished celebrity content, where every post is thought out and every caption is a work of art.

As this is happening, it’s difficult not to think about celebrity relationships in the era of social media. Ten years ago, couples such as Nick and Priyanka would have waited for an interview or meticulously planned a photo shoot for a magazine. These days, the intimacy of the hotel room selfie or candid video is more powerful than any statement that a publicist has ever given. Fans don’t need to be told that a relationship is strong. They want to see it in the little things, from the spouse secretly recording the other and posting it on Instagram, to picking up a romantic quotation from a film as a caption, to putting up a blue heart symbolizing friendship without a paragraph of explanation.

Public affection like this, of course, brings with it some scrutiny. Every fan who wants more couple scenes has a soulful face who is dissecting every scene for problems or tension. That’s the double edged sword of the sharing of the personal life with millions of strangers. What is natural to a one might seem orchestrated to another. But, Nick and Priyanka have somehow managed to navigate through this tension very well over the years. They are not always active on their blog. They are not involved in drama. They talk about what they want to talk about, typically at events such as awards shows or at family gatherings, and then go back to their private lives. The last thing they need is that restraint, and it’s perhaps what makes them so appealing in the first place. In their situation, absence does make the heart grow fonder.

It is appropriate to acknowledge the wit behind the reference in the book. The first thing I wanted to do was to pick one of the most familiar romantic lines from an early-movies favourite coming-of-age story, instead of one from a more obvious film, to show some jauntiness. There are a lot of songs or poetic outbursts that Nick could have used. Rather, he chose a pop culture throwback that paints Priyanka as elegant and somewhat supernatural, a princess going to her kingdom. It’s romantic and it’s not cheesy, specific and it’s not exclusionary. Those who have been brought up with that movie would surely feel a sense of familiarity and affection.
