Ringo and his All Starr Band kicked off their current tour on September 7. Ringo performed ten times across the United States in this series. The last show of Ringo was held on September 22 in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Apart from touring, Ringo recently released his newest EP called Crooked Boy, which he published in April. The project also entails input from the Strokes’ guitarist, Nick Valensi and comes from the mind of songwriter and producer Linda Perry. Speaking in an interview with Variety, Ringo said he wanted this EP to be rockier songs as this is what his culture deserved.
He remembers, “Even in February Sky, it was all that dark sky everywhere in February, so that’s an emotion in there. But I told her, ‘There’s gotta be a crack — a break in the sky — and the sun is coming out.’ Because all my songs have that. They can be ‘I’m down, I’m this, I’m that… But things are getting better, things are going up.’ They always have a positive upside.
Discussing the themes of the new music, Ringo addressed the tracks on his 2023 EP, Rewind Forward, where he said that the title track actually bears an even stronger connection to this theme: ” ‘Rewind forward’ meant, sometimes you’re in a mood, and if you just backtrack a little and then find that – and then carry on from that moment, it helps sometimes.”.
Reflecting on the process of making Crooked Boy, Ringo talked about how he wanted to sum up his life in those words. He said: “At first she wrote Crooked Boy, and it was all about the story of my life — you know, I was ill, I was better, I found my own way.” Then he took an initiative to direct Linda Perry, saying: “I called her and I said, ‘Linda, write me a rock song! ‘ And she says, ‘What’s that?’ I said, ‘I’ll leave it there”.
Just write me a rock song. ‘ And she did of course, and it’s called Gonna Need Need Someone.
And it did rock, and she put the band together, and then we did a video with the song playing and we are popping in and out.”
Recently Ringo Starring also celebrated his 84th birthday with all his fans and marked it with a call to action by making a peace and love appeal through his worldwide Peace and Love event. He appealed to the people to say or post the words “peace and love,” which he advocated for years now in the course of his career. Cancellation for his shows is a sad turn of events, much to the disappointment of those awaiting his performances. Ringo’s commitment to health and a very positive outlook will ensure that his joy and music will continue to linger around for many years to come.
