The bombshell was announced at Disney’s D23 Expo, and the crowd erupted into a stir, matching that hitting the internet. At the helm once more is Brad Bird, mastermind of the original Incredibles magic, ensuring the Parr family’s unique blend of heroism and family life is reborn on the big screen.
While Pixar boss Pete Docter made the official announcement, details about the plot are as scarce as supervillains on a quiet day. It’s early days yet, so don’t really expect to see Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl saving the world anytime soon. But the fact that development is underway is enough to send any fan into a frenzy.
Pixar really knows how to franchise any favorite character. Toy Story and Cars proved that many times. Now it appears the Incredibles are joining their ranks.
But do not worry, original story lovers! Pixar is not only at work on sequels. Elio, an otherworldly adventure, is coming to theatres next year. And just the other day, the studio dropped Hoppers, a mind-bending tale of a girl who swaps places with a robotic beaver. No, you didn’t read that wrong.
The success of Inside Out 2 and the box office colossus that is Incredibles 2 have certainly paved the way for more sequels. However, with projects as fresh and fanciful as Elio and Hoppers in development, it’s evident Pixar is serious about delivering both beloved returns and groundbreaking originals.
