Jimi Hendrix Box Set to Feature 38 Unreleased Tracks from His Final Months

A new box set of Jimi Hendrix’s music, “Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision,” is set for release in September. This collection includes 39 tracks recorded at New York’s Electric Lady Studios in the months leading up to Hendrix’s death in September 1970. All but one of these tracks have never been released before. A video for one of the tracks, “Angel [Take 7],” is already available.

The release of the box set coincides with a documentary of the same name. “Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision” will premiere on August 9 at Quad Cinema in Manhattan before a wider theatrical release. The documentary explores the story behind Hendrix’s iconic studio, built on the site of a rundown Manhattan nightclub. Producer Eddie Kramer recalls the challenges faced during its construction, including frequent financial issues that forced Hendrix to tour to raise funds. Despite these struggles, the studio became a creative haven for Hendrix, who had specific visions for its atmosphere.

The box set will be available on September 13, featuring five vinyl LPs or three CDs, along with a Blu-ray disc that includes newly mixed 5.1 audio versions of 20 previously released recordings. Hendrix’s sister, Janie, highlights the significance of this project, emphasizing not only Hendrix’s musical vision but also his lasting contribution through Electric Lady Studios, where many artists continue to record today.
