Sydney Second Mass Stabbing: Knifeman Attacks Bishop, Worshippers In Middle Of Church Service

Emergency services are responding to a stabbing incident in Wakeley, with reports indicating that a male suspect has been apprehended and is cooperating with authorities. Thankfully, the individuals injured in the attack are receiving medical attention from NSW Ambulance paramedics, with their injuries reported as non-life-threatening.

Local media outlets have disclosed that a church leader and multiple worshippers were stabbed during a church service. Disturbing videos circulating online depict the assailant lunging and stabbing a speaker.

According to an AFP report, the assault occurred during a service at an Assyrian church in the western part of the city. Eyewitnesses described the attacker approaching the altar, wielding a knife, and targeting the preacher, causing panic and chaos among the congregation.

The New South Wales Police confirmed the ongoing operation in Wakeley, stating, “Officers arrested a male, and he is assisting police with inquiries.” The statement reiterated that the injured individuals are receiving medical care, and further updates will be provided as information becomes available.

According to the ambulance service, four men, aged between 20 and 70, sustained injuries, including lacerations, as a result of the attack.

This incident marks the second stabbing tragedy in Sydney, following the tragic knife attack at a mall in the Bondi area, where six individuals lost their lives.
