When Camilla Parker Bowles married Prince Charles in 2005, she was not given the title of princess. This was a decision made by the British royal family and was done partly out of respect to Princess Diana, the late wife of Prince Charles. As a result, Camilla is known as the Duchess of Cornwall, instead of Princess of Wales.
When the couple announced their engagement, Camilla reportedly wanted to be known as the “Princess Consort”, a title which would have made her the wife of the Prince of Wales, but not a princess in her own right. However, the Queen decided against this and instead gave her the title of Duchess of Cornwall.
The decision to not give Camilla the title of princess was made out of respect to Princess Diana, who was beloved by the British public. It was thought that giving Camilla the title of princess would be seen as a slight to Diana’s memory, and so the Queen decided against it.
Camilla has accepted the title of Duchess of Cornwall and is said to be happy with it. She is a popular figure in the royal family and is often seen attending events with Prince Charles.
The decision to not give Camilla the title of princess was made in 2005 and is unlikely to change in the future. As such, Camilla will remain the Duchess of Cornwall for the foreseeable future.
