Former first vice-president Amrullah Saleh has claimed that he is the caretaker president of Afghanistan in Ashraf Ghani’s absence.
Taking to Twitter, he said, “As per the constitution of Afghanistan in absence, escape, resignation or death of the President, the FVP becomes the caretaker President. I am currently inside my country and am the legitimate caretaker President. Am reaching out to all leaders to secure their support and consensus.”

Former president of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani, left the country after the Taliban narrowed in and took over Kabul. On Monday, he took to social media to say that he left the country to avoid bloodshed. Ashraf Ghani, however, did not disclose his current location.
