Suman Roy Nominated for ‘Social Impact Champion’ at IMA 2025 (E2)

Few individuals embody the spirit of social impact quite like Suman Roy, the driving force behind some of the most ambitious and impactful food security initiatives in Canada and beyond. As a 2025 nominee for Social Impact Champion at the Influencer Magazine Awards, Suman’s work stands as a powerful example of how deep compassion, strategic vision, and relentless advocacy can change lives.

A distinguished leader across private, public, and nonprofit sectors, Suman has built a legacy rooted in justice, fighting systemic inequities and championing access to basic human rights such as food, health, and economic dignity. His influence is felt from local communities in Scarborough to international platforms like the United Nations, where he has represented Canada on issues related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and global food security.

Suman’s groundbreaking work began with his pivotal role in co-developing the first-ever Food Strategy for the City of Toronto, a landmark move toward sustainable food systems and equity-driven policy. But his mission didn’t stop there. He founded Feed Scarborough, a now-critical organization working to dismantle food apartheid in one of Canada’s most underserved regions. The movement has since expanded into national and global efforts, including Hunger-Free Canada and the Zero Hunger Project, both created to ensure no one goes to bed hungry.

In 2024, Suman launched the Zero Hunger Project book and accompanying global podcast, further expanding his mission’s reach. Through storytelling, education, and coalition-building, he’s fostering a generation of changemakers committed to ending food insecurity. His contributions have earned him global recognition: “CEO of the Year (NGO),” “Changemaker of the Year,” and “Visionary of the Year,” among other accolades. Most notably, he received the King Charles III Coronation Medal, a rare honor acknowledging his outstanding service to Canada and humanity.

Whether speaking at the UN High-Level Political Forum, the FAO, or mentoring grassroots organizations across continents, Suman Roy is not just making an impact, he is building a legacy. His nomination as Social Impact Champion is not merely about what he’s achieved, but about the global movement he continues to ignite.
