Rapper Tory Lanez has been hospitalized after being stabbed by another inmate in a California prison, according to an Instagram post from his official account. The post detailed that Lanez sustained multiple wounds to his back, torso, head, and face. He was temporarily placed on a breathing machine but is now breathing on his own.
“Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through,” the post read.
The attack reportedly occurred around 7:20 a.m. local time, confirmed Pedro Calderón Michel from the state’s corrections department. Prison staff administered emergency aid before Lanez was transported to a local hospital for further treatment. The motive behind the stabbing remains unclear, and an investigation is currently underway.
Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, is serving a sentence related to the high-profile 2020 shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion. In 2023, he was convicted on three felony charges, including assault with a semi-automatic firearm.
During the trial, Megan testified that Lanez shot at her feet after an argument inside a vehicle following a party at Kylie Jenner’s home. She needed surgery to remove bullet fragments.
Lanez, who has maintained his innocence and declined to apologize, was a prominent figure in the hip-hop scene, scoring seven U.S. top 10 albums before his conviction. Despite his imprisonment, he has hinted at new music, teasing an upcoming project titled Peterson.
The case has sharply divided public opinion and the music industry, with notable figures like 50 Cent and Iggy Azalea voicing support and even requesting leniency in his sentencing.
