Prince William and Kate Middleton could be getting ready to assume the throne much sooner than many of us anticipated, says a royal biographer. Their ascension to the monarchy might come much earlier than anyone had anticipated because of King Charles’s persistent health issues.
King Charles was diagnosed with cancer earlier in the year and started his treatment shortly afterward. Though he avoided public appearances for some time, he continued all the secret engagements. He prepared files, held private sessions, and continued to receive regular meetings with the Prime Minister.
King Charles took the throne after the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, a position he had been preparing for for decades. However, just two years later, royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith suggested that Prince William and Kate Middleton might take on their royal roles sooner than expected.
According to People Magazine, Smith said that even though King Charles is continuing with his duties, cancer treatment has understandably limited his capacity for performing his duties fully. Therefore, Prince William has been taking up much of the responsibility and has both he and Kate preparing for their future roles much earlier than they had anticipated.
According to a royal insider, there’s something of a calm before the storm for William and Kate ahead of what’s to come. “They are next in line for the biggest job of their lives,” said the source, who explained that while Kate’s health was an issue, this time around has given the family much-needed space to step back and reflect on what’s important.
The royal family had hardly been able to get back on their feet after the public announcement of King Charles’ diagnosis when they faced another blow. Kate Middleton had also been noticeably absent from her royal duties. In March, it was announced that Kate had cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy. She took time off to focus on her health and family, keeping the diagnosis private until her children had time to understand the news.
Kate began the month by sharing news with her supporters that she had been declared cancer-free since finishing chemotherapy. She’s begun a cautious reintroduction to public life. Recently, she attended a visit from first responders who assisted in the horrific Southport stabbings. She brought some happiness to the holiday season, appearing in the Christmas carol service at Westminster.
During one of these engagements, Kate was overheard telling singer Paloma Faith that this past year had been incredibly difficult for her. “I didn’t know this year was going to be the year that I’ve just had,” she shared candidly, reflecting on the challenges she faced.
Despite everything, William has stepped up in his royal duties. Recently, he represented his father at the official reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. His involvement in such high-profile events shows how much he has already taken on during this difficult period for the family.
It is clear that both Prince William and Kate Middleton have been preparing for their future roles, even if they didn’t expect to do so this soon. Their dedication and commitment to their responsibilities as members of the royal family are evident, and it’s becoming increasingly likely that they will ascend to the throne sooner than expected.
As King Charles is said to be focusing on his health, the world watches as William and Kate continue to step into roles that will define their future as monarchs.
