Ed Sheeran Faces Backlash for Interrupting Ruben Amorim’s Interview

Ed Sheeran has faced backlash over what some considered “unprofessional” behavior: interrupting football manager Ruben Amorim during a post-match interview on Sky Sports. The incident unfolded when the discussion was suddenly interrupted by Amorim while on Sky Sports.

Presenting live, but feeling compelled to interrupt analyst Amorim in order to make a special announcement, Kelly Cates said, “And Ed Sheeran’s come to join us,” as captured on video and posted on Sky Sports’ official Instagram account.

The caption on the video read: “Ruben Amorim didn’t want to hear from Ipswich fan Ed Sheeran after the musician gatecrashed his post-match interview.” It drew an immediate online backlash, with numerous fans voicing their displeasure in the comments.

“Kinda disrespectful from Ed to make it about him tbh,” one commenter wrote, frustrated with the unprecedented interruption.

Another commented, “No one wants to talk to Ed Sheeran tbf,” so perhaps his performance was not as welcome as he had hoped.

The following comment compared his situation to the music business, “It would look very odd (to say the least) if just after a concert had finished, a football manager walked on stage and started chatting with the band. Right…?

The criticism reflects an opinion that Sheeran’s cameo might have forced Amorim out of his professional moment, and the fans are questioning whether it is appropriate to interrupt.

This incident is the latest in a recent controversy surrounding “Perfect” singer Sheeran. He recently put Sir Bob Geldof in the dock for allegedly using his voice without permission in the 40th-anniversary mix of Band Aid’s iconic track Do They Know It’s Christmas?.

Speaking about the situation, Sheeran claimed that his vocals went into the song without his consent. Even though the mix brought multiple artists to salute the track’s legacy, Sheeran’s comments highlighted a lack of communication related to his contribution.

Even though he is one of the most popular musical artists across the world and widely adored, these two back-to-back controversies have overshadowed the otherwise untarnished public image of the star.

The ending of Ed Sheeran interrupting Amorim’s interview and comments toward Geldof did not fail to incite discussions on professionalism, especially when crossing over to different industries. Be it the insights from a football manager postmatch or a joint effort at music, mutual respect and clear communication remain the critical component of all interactions.

While Sheeran’s fans keep sticking up for him, it was indeed an event that reminded fans that even the biggest stars aren’t averse to harsh public criticism.
