“It has been an emotional day,” Nadal confessed. “Feeling the national anthem for the last time was very special. A mix of emotions made things a bit difficult.”

The Netherlands finally emerged victorious, taking home the 2-1 win against Spain. It was the final point, and Nadal’s career was ending as the ceremony took place on court. He thanked his family, team, and fans as he spoke to the people.

A heartfelt video tribute featuring Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Serena Williams, and Andy Murray further emphasized the impact of Nadal’s career. The tennis world united to honor the legend.

“You never want to be at this point,” Nadal said. “I’m not tired of playing tennis, but my body can’t go any further anymore. I have been extremely lucky to have managed to turn my hobby into my profession for so long. I thank my family and team, who have been an unforgettable part of my life.”

Nadal said that it was mainly the connection with human beings and his loved ones that helped him throughout his journey. He also agreed on the sacrifices made by his family and the team without whom he would not have been able to succeed.

When asked about his legacy, Nadal humbly replied, “As a good person from a small village in Mallorca. I had the life I had. My uncle, a tennis coach in my village, ignited my passion. As a kid, I chased my dreams and worked tirelessly to reach this point. Many people work hard and strive for their best, but I was one of the lucky ones.”

Rafael Nadal ends the tennis era. It goes way beyond his titles and records that he has won because, with him, comes the legacy of passion, perseverance, and sportsmanship. Many generations are going to be inspired through his story.
