Rory McIlroy finished his terrible 2024 season with a thumping victory at the DP World Tour Championship. It also sealed his sixth Race to Dubai, quite a fitting tribute to his prolonged excellence and determination.
Northern Irishman McIlroy found himself in an exciting head-to-head duel for the season-ending event with Rasmus Højgaard. As the tension mounted, McIlroy’s crown for the Race to Dubai was confirmed since both players matched each other at 13 under par and five holes to play.
McIlroy played with stellar calmness, halving the 15th and then sinking a critical birdie putt on the 16th to take a lead over Højgaard. While Højgaard fought valiantly down the last, missing a birdie putt to win, McIlroy’s victory was sealed by his two-shot advantage at the end of a double which crowned the end of the season.

A top-11 finish on Sunday earned McIlroy the top spot on the season rankings after he outstripped South African Thriston Lawrence, who finished mid-field in Dubai. His win marks his third consecutive Race to Dubai title and goes a long way to indicate that McIlroy is one of the most dominant golfers on the DP World Tour.
Winning his sixth Race to Dubai title pushed McIlroy to equal second place on the all-time list behind only Colin Montgomerie. Only Montgomerie, who won the tour eight times, stands above the duo. “To be named with Seve is an honor,” McIlroy said. “He was a huge force for European golf and the Ryder Cup.”.
Inspired by this feat, McIlroy aimed for the feat of Montgomerie. To that end, he renewed his determination to keep on fighting for success and trophy wins and possibly win his seventh Race to Dubai title next year.
