Marvel Creator Stan Lee’s Voice and Likeness Revived Through New Artificial Intelligence Initiative

The unmistakable voice and vivid imagination of Marvel legend Stan Lee are making a digital return. A newly announced artificial intelligence project will bring Lee’s voice and image into books, digital media, and creative tools, allowing a new generation to experience the iconic creator in ways that were never possible before his passing in 2018. Lee died at the age of ninety five, but his signature energy will now narrate stories and appear in approved AI driven content through a licensing deal with ElevenLabs’ Iconic Marketplace. This partnership was established with Stan Lee Universe, a joint venture between Genius Brands International and POW! Entertainment, and it marks one of the most high profile posthumous AI collaborations in the entertainment world.

As someone who grew up reading Marvel comics and watching Lee’s cameos with a knowing smile, it is both strange and thrilling to hear his voice again. There is something deeply human about the way Lee spoke, that playful, wise, larger than life tone that made you feel like he was letting you in on a secret. Hearing an AI generated version of that voice say his famous catchphrases feels like a glimpse of a future where legacy is no longer locked in the past. The company released a video featuring an AI generated version of Lee, who says, “You know what they never tell you about legends? They outlive the page.” That single line captures the ambition and the complexity of this entire project.

The scope of the revival goes far beyond simple voice mimicry. ElevenLabs trained the voice model on professional recordings of Lee, ensuring that the cadence and character of his speech feel authentic. Users will be able to access Lee’s voice through the Eleven Reader app, where it can narrate books, starting with a new Stan Lee Book Club of the Month series. The first selection kicks off in June with Robert Louis Stevenson’s ‘Treasure Island’, and a different public domain book will follow every month. In addition to narration, the platform offers Lee inspired image and video creation tools, including comic book panel templates that let users generate their own Lee style visuals. These fan creations are limited to non commercial use, but the potential for personal storytelling is enormous.

For those who love music and sound design, the project also introduces two music filters called “Superhero Cinematic Swells” and “Retro Hero Fanfare”. These tools allow creators to add a layer of Stan Lee inspired atmosphere to their own projects, whether they are making a fan film, a podcast intro, or just experimenting with digital art at home. Lee’s likeness and voice join a roster of other famous names on the ElevenLabs platform, including Michael Caine, Judy Garland, Burt Reynolds, David Hasselhoff, and even Albert Einstein. Interestingly, Val Kilmer’s estate also recently allowed his image and voice to be used in the upcoming film ‘As Deep as the Grave’ after his death in 2025, showing a growing trend of posthumous digital licensing in Hollywood.

Chaz Rainey, a lawyer and board member for Stan Lee Universe, spoke about the emotional motivation behind the deal. He said, “Stan always believed in meeting his fans where they were: in the pages of a comic, at a convention, or in a quick on screen cameo. This partnership is a way of continuing that. Fans have always told us that when they read his comics, they hear the words in Stan’s voice, and now, thanks to ElevenLabs, we can make that a reality.” In the promotional video, the AI generated Lee voice also delivers his two most beloved lines: “With great power comes great responsibility” and “Excelsior” with the same warmth and showmanship that fans remember from his real life appearances.
