Mukta Bain Nominated for Humanitarian of the Year at IMA 2025

From a remote village in Bangladesh to the policy halls of Maryland, Mukta Bain’s story is a remarkable testimony of purpose, compassion, and perseverance. Nominated for Humanitarian of the Year at the Influencer Magazine Awards 2025, Mukta embodies the very spirit of humanitarianism, bridging worlds, uplifting lives, and turning personal history into public service.

At just eight years old, Mukta was brought to the U.S. for a better life, leaving behind her mother and siblings in Bangladesh. That early sacrifice laid the foundation for a lifelong commitment to giving back. Today, she serves as a Health Policy Analyst at the Maryland Department of Health while simultaneously pursuing her doctorate in public health (Dr.P.H.) at Morgan State University. But her impact extends far beyond state lines. Through her nonprofit A Voice for a Village in Bangladesh, Mukta has transformed her home village, installing water lines, building a bridge across a dangerous river, distributing blankets during harsh winters, and most recently, launching an education initiative to prevent child marriage by sponsoring girls’ schooling. Her hands-on approach includes personally traveling village to village, conducting interviews, and selecting girls based on need and potential, restoring futures, one student at a time.

Mukta’s humanitarianism doesn’t stop overseas. In Maryland, she’s a respected voice in health advocacy, having worked with Maryland Healthcare for All! Coalition and the Maryland Public Health Association. She’s testified in support of crucial legislation, educated students on health equity, and served communities during the COVID-19 pandemic, cofounding Covid-19 Paradise to deliver essentials to senior citizens. Her advocacy work has even led her to meet Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden, and represent Bangladesh at the United Nations Youth for Human Rights Summit in New York.

What makes Mukta Bain a true Humanitarian of the Year isn’t just the breadth of her work, it’s the heart behind it. She isn’t waiting for change. She’s building it—across borders, across systems, and across lives.
