Vin Diesel, the Fast & Furious franchise’s frontman, isn’t slowing down anytime soon. Even as Fast X – Part 2 gears up to close out the long-running franchise, Diesel is already gearing up for a string of projects that will keep his fans engaged for years to come. The action hero recently posted on Instagram an update on his forthcoming films after he attended the Oscars.
This year’s Oscars began with a touching tribute to Los Angeles, recognizing the devastating wildfires that ravaged residential neighborhoods. The montage, which used iconic movie scenes to highlight the city, had a clip from Furious 7. Diesel noticed and showed his gratitude in his Instagram post, stating, “By the way, shout out to the Oscars for starting their whole show with a clip from Fast Seven…”
But Diesel didn’t leave it at just looking back at his previous victories. His most recent post provided fans with an insider view of the projects he has been working on in secret. The actor let it be known that he’s been collaborating closely with Lionsgate to look into the future of Kaulder, his character in The Last Witch Hunter. Simultaneously, he’s getting questions regarding when he can come back as Xander Cage in the xXx series. Audiences of both movies will be thrilled to learn that Diesel is keen on revisiting these characters.
Among the biggest teases from his post was confirmation that Disney is working on a long-awaited Marvel movie with Groot’s home planet. Diesel hinted, “Also, Disney wants their Planet X! Which some claim is Marvel’s most highly anticipated film, haha. The movie where Groot goes back to his native planet. With the popularity of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise and the fan favorite Groot, a movie based on his origins could be a huge success for Marvel Studios.
Aside from his Marvel venture, Diesel revealed that he’s had talks with Mattel regarding adapting Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots into a film. With the record-breaking success of Barbie demonstrating that movies based on toys can be box office hits, Mattel appears keen to grow its movie universe. Diesel expressed his enthusiasm, posting, “Mattel, one of my favorite companies, is getting close to launching the testosterone-male answer to Barbie with Rock ‘em Sock ‘em!
” Given Diesel’s history with action-packed films, he seems like a natural fit for a project that promises high-energy robot battles.
Another highly anticipated project on Diesel’s plate is Riddick: Furya, which started production last summer. The Riddick series has a loyal fan base, and Diesel recognized their devotion, stating, “Obviously, there is Riddick which must always endure for the die-hard fans.” The sci-fi franchise, which started with Pitch Black in 2000, has been a cult classic, and fans will be keen to know what new adventures lie ahead for the anti-hero in his next outing. But Diesel isn’t content with just headlining blockbuster movies—he’s also getting behind the camera. He announced he’s going to direct a movie about an iconic New York detective, one that many assume is the long in the works Kojack adaptation.
In his blog post, Diesel teased the project, stating, “On top of that, I am directing the film about that notorious New York detective, which is drawing me to New York.” If this is indeed the Kojack movie, it will be a thrilling new chapter in Diesel’s career as a director. Naturally, no Diesel update would be complete without mention of the Fast & Furious franchise. With several projects in the works, he’s also dedicated to ensuring the final entry in the franchise, Fast X2, is given the right farewell. Diesel has reaffirmed his commitment to restoring the grand finale to Los Angeles, stating, “In between managing this mad schedule for the year, we keep fighting to bring Fast X2, the finale, back to LA this summer!
