Incubus Prepares for First Album in Eight Years

A popular rock group that initially gained popularity during the 1990s is preparing to release its first full album in almost a decade.

Incubus lead vocalist Brandon Boyd recently informed in an interview with German magazine Flux FM—subsequently translated by ThePRP—that the band finished working on its ninth studio album a little more than two months ago. This highly anticipated album will be its first since 2017’s “8.”

“It’s mastered, it’s mixed, it’s just ready to go. We’re currently working on the artwork,” Boyd revealed, hinting at how close fans are to hearing the new material.

According to him, the creative process unfolded rapidly, which he believes is always a good sign. “When an album comes together quickly, it means we’ve entered a kind of flow state,” he said.

Boyd expects the album to come out in October, with the lead single to come out prior to that. Though the title has yet to be confirmed, he was excited about what has been produced. “I think it’s a really great record, and I’m really proud of it. Everyone in the band is really proud of it. We had an amazing time recording it.”

The album was produced by Brendan O’Brien, a veteran producer who worked on Incubus’ 2004 album “.A Crow Left Of The Murder” and their 2006 release “Light Grenades” in the past. Aside from his work with the band, O’Brien also worked with Boyd on his side project, Sons of the Sea.

“He’s my favorite producer I’ve ever collaborated with, and I’m thrilled we were able to get back together for this album,” Boyd said.

This album will also be the first with bassist Nicole Row as an official member of the band. Row first signed on with Incubus in March 2023 as a touring bassist, replacing long-time member Ben Kenney. Kenney left the band after having surgery to remove a brain tumor, which unfortunately rendered him permanently deaf in one ear and partially paralyzed on his face. Row joined officially in February 2024.

“She absolutely nailed it. We’re all completely in love with her energy, and she’s become an invaluable part of the band in such a short time,” Boyd said. “We’re thrilled she decided to come on board—it’s been a great experience.”

Incubus, with their fusion of alternative rock and funk-metal styles, has established a loyal fan base since they were formed in 1991. With several gold and platinum records, they have made a lasting impression on the world of rock music. Their discography boasts classic songs like “Drive,” “Wish You Were Here,” “Stellar,” “Nice to Know You,” “Anna Molly,” and “Pardon Me.”

As anticipation mounts for their new release, the band will also be going on a string of shows. Included in these performances is a highly anticipated visit to Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Tickets can be obtained through reputable outlets such as StubHub and Vivid Seats so that fans won’t miss what is sure to be an exciting new era in Incubus’ rich history.
