Meghan Markle and Prince Harry may be sitting on a gold mine of a financial opportunity, says one royal expert, but cashing in on it could irreparably damage the relationship with the Royal Family. In the months since moving to the United States following their stepping back from active royal duty, the two have pursued various business deals and endorsements to keep up their lifestyle that involves highly visible media projects.
This has been a wild success for him, selling more than six million copies worldwide, for which he reportedly received a US$20 million advance. Though Harry’s book brought in a substantial amount of money, some believe Meghan’s untapped potential in telling her own story could be just as lucrative.
Tom Bower, author of Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War Between the Windsors, appeared on Talk TV to give his two cents on how Meghan’s autobiography would be the next big financial hit for the couple. “The only thing she has got left—and I think that is her potential gold mine—is her autobiography,” Bower said. He went on to say, while it absolutely would increase their income, it may be at the expense of any reconciliation with the Royal Family.
Bower emphasized that Meghan’s imagination and the ability to build a story around herself could make her autobiography a bestseller. On the other hand, the aftereffects of such a book might be too destructive for any hope of restoring their sullied family ties. “She has a very, very vivid imagination, and she’ll be able to spell out an amazing story. to increase her income,” he noted.
His remarks come after it was earlier claimed that Meghan initially relocated to London to pursue an acting career. However, Bower said that her acting career had stalled much earlier before she met Prince Harry and clarified, “Her acting career ended a long time before she came to London-that’s why she came here. She couldn’t get any more work after Suits.
And despite the cash windfall a memoir would bring, a source close to Meghan hints that she’s not interested. “Meghan is content with the path she has chosen and is interested in moving forward, not revisiting the past,” one insider tells Us Weekly. “Meghan has gone from actress to royal to entrepreneur,” says the source. “She’s worn many hats, but she feels age and experience have prepared her for a bigger purpose in life. She’s very happy with the role she’s carved out.”
The source went on to explain that Meghan and Harry are ready to move on with their lives, having been able to achieve success separate from their past royal roles. “After Spare, they realized, ‘OK, we’re ready to move on. We want to focus on our future. We can have meaning and importance separate from the lives we had previously.'”
Meghan, according to the insider, doesn’t hold any bitterness from the events of the past few years. “Meghan doesn’t harbour any negative feelings. She just wants peace and knows you can’t find peace if you harbour resentments,” added the insider.
While Meghan’s possible autobiography has been highly speculated on, attention regarding Prince Harry’s decision on his memoir has also been a point of interest. Harry decided not to include any revelations in the paperback version of Spare, even though it flew off the bookshelves upon its release. A huge surprise to many, experts comment on how unlikely it is for an international bestseller not to be updated in subsequent editions after an opportunity was available to discuss recent times.
Some interpreted that as an olive branch to the Royal Family; perhaps Harry was signaling he wanted to move away from conflict. Spare is being re-released to coincide with a big royal event: the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa, to which King Charles will be making a very senior appearance. Perhaps, Harry did not add new chapters in the updated version not to add fuel to fire when things are already too critical for the monarchy.
While it is yet to be seen whether Harry and Meghan would let out more bombshells in the future, what is for sure is that their decisions are going to be a continuous part of how they build up their public images, even going as far as the relationship between them and the Royal Family. It is a tight balancing act, as one would not want to jeopardize a possible family reconciliation in the interest of financial independence, and it is going to be interesting to see how that works out.
