Fatman Scoop, Rapper Behind the Hit ‘Be Faithful’, Dies at 53

Isaac Freeman III, famously known to the world as Fatman Scoop, died at 53 years. According to the popular news agency, in 1999 the New York rapper, popularly known because of his breakout hit single “Be Faithful,” went into a medical emergency during a performance in Hamden, Connecticut on August 30. An attempt to revive him as he was being rushed to the nearby hospital proved futile as Freeman was pronounced dead. This terrible news was confirmed by his tour manager Bryan “DJ Pure Cold” Michael, who released the sad update via social media the following day. The cause of death of the 30-year-old is not yet disclosed.

Michael was clearly shaken by the loss and took to social media to express how deeply it pained him as he thought of just how much Freeman impacted his life and career. “I am genuinely lost for words,” he added in an Instagram post. “You took me all around the world and had me performing alongside you on some of the biggest and greatest stages on this planet. The things you taught me have truly made me the man I am today.”

Freeman’s death has shocked the music world. MN2S-the touring agency handling his affairs- paid a glowing tribute to the late talented artist, describing his singular contributions to the industry: “Scoop was a loved member of the music community. He was an artist whose releases were loved by fans all over the world. His legendary voice, incredible energy, and fantastic personality will always be a part of the music industry. His music will be with us forever.”

Fatman Scoop was much more than a rapper, but one energetic performer who combined his roles of hype man, radio host, and television personality with seamless ease. His rise to fame was simultaneous with the single “Be Faithful,” a number featuring the Crooklyn Clan, but which had its most recognizable sample as “Love Like This” by Chic. Before it finally saw international attention in 2003, when the samples cleared, this song enjoyed great success across New York club circuits. “Be Faithful” soon came out as an anthem, propelling Freeman to super-stardom.

His solo work aside, Freeman’s inimitable vocals found him collaborating with unparalleled charisma with the biggest names in music. In 2005, he found himself featured on Missy Elliott’s hit single “Lose Control,” which also features Ciara. The song peaked at Number Three on the Billboard Hot 100 and was a commercial success. Its engaging music video won a Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video, with the song itself receiving a nomination for Best Rap Song.

Needless to say, Fatman Scoop has left his fingerprints in the music industry. His talent became expected in the clubs and across the airwaves with his energetic performances and booming voice. He inspired a generation of artists and fans alike. As his death has created a void within music, his contribution will still continue to ring out to the audience for years to come. Isaac Freeman III might be gone, but Fatman Scoop will never die, for the music lives on, touching the hearts of so many and stirring the fans all over the world.
