Jo Whiley will present her evening show live from Preston as part of the programme of events for Radio 2 in the Park 2024. On September 6-8, Moor Park will play host to some great acts like The Pet Shop Boys and Sting.
Whiley will be live at The Ferret – a vibrant independent music venue in Lancashire – between 19:00 and 21:00 BST during the show. The venue will be packed with an invited audience of BBC Radio 2 listeners, who will get to enjoy a live performance from three local bands that have featured on BBC Introducing.
It also signifies a lot for emerging and unknown talent throughout the UK because it showcases them through BBC Introducing. This program will be simulcast on BBC Radio Lancashire as well. Their BBC Introducing presenter, William Wolstenholme, will join Whiley as her co-host.
The new feature of the show will be where Whiley broadcasts her first-ever Spotlight BBC Introducing Act. She’ll feature various BBC Introducing artists throughout this year, bringing their music to the Radio 2 airwaves.
Acts playing at The Ferret include:
Bryony Jarman-Pinto is a singer-songwriter from Lancashire who combines elements of jazz, soul, and folk in an inimitable way.
Their 12-year-olds include an electronic-pop trio from Lancaster with a Preston-born vocalist, Evie Plumb, and the multi-instrumentalists Luke Paget and Jamie Walker: LOWES. Another is the Blackpool indie outfit VALA who have already headlined in Manchester at the Deaf Institute and YES Pink Room, and soon embark on their first UK tour.
Those wanting to attend can register a ticket ballot through the BBC Radio 2 in the Park website. Whiley said she was “super excited to get the party started.” She added, “The city has a vibrant music scene, with outstanding local talent. I can’t wait for our listeners to hear our showcase of the region’s best new musicians.”
Other acts playing at BBC Radio 2 in the Park will include Manic Street Preachers, Sugababes, Craig David, Snow Patrol, Travis, and Sister Sledge. This year, the festival is going to run over three days, starting with a Friday night “pre-party” hosted by Radio 2 DJs such as Sara Cox and Vernon Kay, who will do DJ sets.
