The saddest message was issued by Dennis Troper, Susan’s husband, on Friday, August 9, 2024, the very morning. “It is with profound sadness that I share the news of Susan Wojcicki passing. My beloved wife of 26 years and mother to our five children left us today after two years of living with non-small cell lung cancer,” he posted on Facebook.
Her death has left a huge vacuum in the tech world and other areas. Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, posted his message of sorrow on the social media platform X, previously known as Twitter. He commented, “Unbelievably saddened by the loss of my dear friend Susan Wojcicki after two years of living with cancer. She is as core to the history of Google as anyone and it’s hard to imagine the world without her.”
Susan journeyed with cancer that she knew she contracted about two years ago. With her illness, she braved it through and continued to inspire the people around her. In 2023, she made a very hard decision to step down as the head of YouTube, a position she held for almost a decade. In her announcement, she mentioned that she wanted to focus on her family, health, and personal projects that she was passionate about. She says that at the time, she wrote, “It would be one of the best decisions of my life.”.
