Young V&A Wins Art Fund Museum of the Year 2024

The Young V&A in Bethnal Green has been recognized as the best museum in the UK, winning the prestigious Art Fund Museum of the Year 2024.

In what is often compared to the Oscars for public institutions, the Art Fund Museum of the Year award honors the finest galleries and cultural spaces in the country. This year’s award ceremony, held at the National Gallery, was a competitive event with Young V&A emerging victorious, securing the £120,000 prize. The museum triumphed over strong contenders such as Dundee Contemporary Arts, Craven Museum, Manchester Museum, and the National Portrait Gallery.

Previously known as the Museum of Childhood, Young V&A underwent a £13 million refurbishment and reopened in July 2023 with a fresh identity and new exhibits. It offers a unique blend of educational and playful experiences, featuring captivating displays of toys and historical artifacts alongside interactive elements and play areas. This fusion makes it an ideal destination for families.

Judge Vick Hope praised Young V&A, calling it “a special and unique place, offering an experience for children (and their adults) like no other out there.” The museum’s commitment to creating a dynamic and engaging environment for young visitors sets it apart from others.
