Rose McGowan has paid a heartfelt tribute to her ‘Charmed’ co-star Shannen Doherty, who passed away at 53 after a long battle with cancer.
McGowan shared an emotional video on Instagram on July 14, featuring moments from Doherty’s life. In her post, McGowan reflected on their deep bond, calling Doherty a “soft-hearted badass” and a passionate fighter against breast cancer.
“Shannen Doherty had the heart of a lion. Passion for craft is often mislabeled as trouble. Shannen was passion,” McGowan wrote. “I met her in the 90s and was awed. Getting to really know her later in life was a beautiful gift. This woman fought to live.”
McGowan praised Doherty’s dedication to her work and the people she loved. “Shannen knew how to be a star because she was one since childhood. Her work ethic was inspiring to the end. Her love for directing, acting, her friends, family, and fans was legendary. We chose love and respect over any attempts to pit us against each other.”
Describing Doherty as “a force of energy that will live forever in hearts,” McGowan expressed her wish for her friend to find peace. “Rest now, warrior. We will never forget you, dear sister.”
Following her breakout roles in ‘Heathers’ and ‘Beverly Hills, 90210,’ Doherty joined ‘Charmed,’ where she played Prue Halliwell for three seasons. Despite her departure amid reported tensions, her impact on the show and its fans remained significant.
Alyssa Milano, another ‘Charmed’ co-star, also paid tribute to Doherty, acknowledging their complicated relationship but expressing deep respect and admiration. “She was a talented actress, beloved by many, and the world is less without her,” Milano shared with the New York Post. “My condolences to all who loved her.”
