Is it a Sin to Re-Marry?
When a marriage ends, whether through death or divorce, it can be difficult to know if it is ever permissible to remarry. The Bible does not explicitly state that remarriage is a sin, but it does provide guidance on the issue. The Bible does not allow for divorce except in cases of adultery or abandonment, and remarriage following an unbiblical divorce is a sin. Yet, while remarriage following an unbiblical divorce is a sin, it is not a special category of sin that is beyond God’s merciful grace.
The Bible speaks of marriage as a covenant between a man and a woman. God designed marriage to be a lifelong commitment and He desires that marriages remain intact. However, the Bible does recognize that marriages can and do end due to death or divorce. In the case of death, the Bible does not prohibit remarriage. In fact, the Bible encourages remarriage in the case of death.
When it comes to divorce, the Bible does not allow for it except in cases of adultery or abandonment. If a marriage ends due to adultery or abandonment, then the Bible does not prohibit remarriage. In fact, the Bible encourages remarriage in the case of adultery or abandonment.
