Azkaban, the infamous wizarding prison, has long been a symbol of fear and despair in the magical world. For centuries, it was guarded by Dementors, soul-sucking creatures that feed on human misery. But in 2015, Azkaban underwent a dramatic transformation. The one responsible for this change was none other than Albus Dumbledore, the beloved headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Dumbledore had long disapproved of the use of Dementors as guards, not only because of the inhumane treatment of the prisoners in their power, but because he foresaw the possible shift in loyalties of such Dark creatures. He believed that Dementors could be swayed to the side of evil if given the opportunity.
In 2015, the Ministry of Magic appointed Kingsley Shacklebolt as the new Minister for Magic. Shacklebolt shared Dumbledore’s views on the Dementors and, under his leadership, Azkaban was purged of the creatures. On 10 August 2015, the last of the Dementors were removed from the prison and replaced with a new security system.
The new security system is far more humane than the old one. It is designed to protect the prisoners from outside threats, while also allowing them to retain their basic rights. The prisoners are also given access to education and rehabilitation programs, as well as regular visits from family and friends.
The transformation of Azkaban is a testament to the power of Dumbledore’s vision. His foresight and determination to protect the prisoners of Azkaban from the Dementors has resulted in a much more humane prison system. The removal of the Dementors has also ensured that the prison is no longer a source of fear and despair in the magical world.
