K-pop idols are adored by millions of fans around the world, and many of them have dreamed of one day marrying their favorite star. Though that’s usually not how reality goes, for a very few lucky fans, that’s exactly how their love stories began. It may sound like a plot straight out of a movie (or a really juicy fan fiction), but it’s happened before. More than one teen idol has ended up married to a fan.
The most famous example of a K-pop idol marrying a fan is probably that of singer Rain and actress Kim Tae Hee. The two met in 2011, when Kim Tae Hee attended a fan meeting for Rain’s album release. They began dating shortly after, and in 2017, the couple tied the knot. Kim Tae Hee was a long-time fan of Rain’s, and even admitted to having a crush on him since she was a teenager.
Another K-pop idol who married a fan is actor and singer Lee Seung Gi. He met his wife, YoonA of Girls’ Generation, at a fan meeting in 2012. They began dating in 2013 and announced their engagement in 2017. YoonA had been a fan of Lee Seung Gi since she was a teenager, and even admitted to having a crush on him.
Finally, there’s actor and singer Lee Hong Ki, who married his fan in 2018. Lee Hong Ki had been a fan of his wife, Han Bo Reum, since she appeared on a variety show in 2012. They began dating in 2017 and tied the knot the following year.
Though it’s not a common occurrence, it’s clear that K-pop idols can and do marry their fans. For those lucky few, it’s a dream come true.
