Despite K-pop’s global popularity, no K-pop group has ever won a Grammy Award. But that could all change this year, as BTS is up for a Grammy Award at the 64th Grammy Awards airing April 3, 2022, at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET.
The seven-member K-pop boy band is nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for their hit single “Dynamite.” This is the first time a K-pop group has been nominated for a Grammy Award, and if they win, they will make history.
The nomination is a huge milestone for BTS and K-pop as a whole. BTS has broken multiple records since their debut in 2013, becoming the first K-pop group to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart with their single “Dynamite” and the first K-pop group to be nominated for a Grammy Award.
BTS is up against some stiff competition in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category. They are competing against Taylor Swift and Bon Iver’s “Exile,” Justin Bieber and benny blanco’s “Lonely,” J Balvin, Dua Lipa, Bad Bunny and Tainy’s “Un Dia (One Day),” and Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s “Rain On Me.”
BTS has already made history by being the first K-pop group to be nominated for a Grammy Award, and they could make even more history if they win. Whether they will win is yet to be seen, but fans around the world are rooting for them.
