Project Overview:
Older adults often struggle with modern e-commerce platforms that prioritise advertising, behavioural tracking, and complex interfaces. These design choices can unintentionally exclude seniors, exposing them to confusion, privacy risks, and online scams.
To address this gap, a new initiative titled Support for Seniors is exploring an ad-free, privacy-first e-commerce platform designed specifically for elderly users. The platform focuses on clarity, trust, and simplicity, removing sponsored listings and tracking mechanisms that commonly dominate online shopping experiences.
The platform has been designed and architected by Saleem, a UK-based software engineer and technical lead, who has focused on embedding privacy and accessibility directly into the system’s architecture rather than treating them as optional features.
Early usability testing of design prototypes involved over 150 senior users, with feedback indicating that simplified navigation, larger visual elements, and the absence of advertising significantly improved confidence when browsing products online.
“The goal was to remove unnecessary complexity and design an experience that prioritises trust,” said Saleem. “For seniors, digital confidence is directly linked to how safe and predictable a platform feels.”
The project is currently in a pre-launch design and technical planning phase, with future work expected to include pilot deployments and partnerships with local businesses.
