
ABOUT
AMARU is a Grammy®-nominated, internationally acclaimed independent recording artist, actor, author, filmmaker, photographer, and model, best known for blending urban inspirational pop music with a heap of Latin soul. Born in Suriname, he made his television debut there before moving to Europe in the early 1990s, where he pursued acting in Amsterdam and Los Angeles, building an extensive résumé in film, television, commercials, and print. His music career began with AMARU: The First EP (2008), followed by his award-winning debut album Champagne Attitude (2018), which earned two Gold Medals at the Global Music Awards. His later works include the cookbook AMARU COOKS – A Touch Of Suriname Through Food & Anecdotes (2020), the memoir Fiercely Independent: The Stories Behind The Music (2022), and his third studio album The Crime Of Silence (2024), featuring the multi-award-winning single Traces of My Melanin and the LGBTQIA tribute Este Hombre (El Tesoro). A member of both the Latin Grammy® and Grammy® academies, AMARU has received numerous honors, including ISSA Awards, Global Music Awards, Accolade Global Film Competition wins, and The Taste Awards. He continues to expand his creative reach with new albums scheduled for release in 2025 and 2026
