Eagles guitarist Don Felder, 77, rushed to medical aid following on-stage emergency
The Rock Legends cruise fans were shocked when ex-Eagles guitarist Don Felder experienced a medical emergency while on stage performing on Thursday night. The 77-year-old artist was playing the band’s legendary song “Tequila Sunrise” when the event occurred.
The eerie incident took place as the cruise journeyed from Miami to CocoCay in the Bahamas. Witnesses said that Felder suddenly became unsteady, ceased playing, and stared offstage, causing concern among crew members and audience members.
Felder, a member of the Eagles from 1974 until 2001, was mid-introduction of “Tequila Sunrise” when his words started to fail him. One of the crew members ran over to grab hold of him as he struggled to keep talking into the mic. Video shot by a member of the audience depicted him swaying before he was led offstage with care.
The audience, initially shocked, soon rallied to the defense of the legendary guitarist, chanting words of support as he was escorted away for medical treatment. Felder was clearly upset, and his staff acted quickly to get him the care he needed.
An initial video of the incident was, however, made available on YouTube by a fan account named Travel The World shortly after the concert. The footage shows the split second when the demeanor of Felder changed to trigger the rescue efforts from co-performers and crew.
His camp issued a response on Friday subsequent to the incidence.
“Following medical treatment, he was diagnosed with dehydration,” the statement said.
Although the ordeal was frightening, dehydration is not unusual for performers, particularly those performing in high-energy settings in the spotlight. Fans have since inundated social media with well wishes, wishing for Felder’s quick recovery.
Felder, whose guitar playing on some of the Eagles’ greatest hits is forever enshrined in rock history, has enjoyed a storied and lengthy career. His iconic guitar riffs on “Hotel California” and other Eagles tunes have entered the annals of rock legend. Through the years, he’s continued to perform, touring and exposing audiences to his passion for music wherever he goes.
While concerns remain over his health, many are hopeful that this was an isolated incident and that Felder will be back on stage soon. His resilience and passion for music have been evident throughout his career, and this moment of hardship is unlikely to keep him away for long.
