Alanis Morissette, arguably one of the most iconic pop stars of the 90s, is tantalizing fans with her mysterious gap in the UK tour dates, which further fueled speculations on possible headliners at Glastonbury next year.
The 50-year-old singer-songwriter has recently announced a series of dates around the UK and Europe next year. The tour cuts across March, June, and July with dates scheduled in Cardiff, Glasgow, Amsterdam, and Barcelona. In interestingly coincidence, one notable absence in her tour schedule is during the Glastonbury Festival weekend, leaving many wondering if she might pop up.
Glastonbury runs from Wednesday, June 25 through Sunday, June 29 at Worthy Farm. Alanis is actually already booked on June 25 in Amsterdam, yet will not be scheduled to play her next show until Sunday, June 29 in Dublin. It means that she is left with open dates during Glastonbury’s prime Friday and Saturday slots, though this rule her out of the Sunday “Legends” slot, which was a 2024 draw by Shania Twain and Yusuf (formerly Cat Stevens) the year before.
Fans were quick on the uptake, taking to social media in excitement and hope that the “Ironic” singer might finally take the Glastonbury stage. One fan, BristolJen, said of X, “I would love to see her there, but hope they know she needs the Pyramid stage!” Another user, Brett Redmayne, added, “She has never played Glastonbury, which is crazy. She still has one of the top 10 biggest albums of all time.”
Alanis posted her dates on Instagram, stating the tour information but clarifying that the dates released so far are “non-headlining” shows. She also mentioned, in the same post, that there were more to be posted soon. Her post said: “So super stoked to share that I’m going to South America this next spring and Europe next summer to play a few shows and festivals , absolutely cannot wait to connect with all of you ✨✨.”.
She went on to announce that pre-sale tickets for her non-festival headline dates will go on sale October 22, encouraging fans to sign up for her mailing list to get access to the code. The more general ticket sales will be available at 9 am BST starting October 25. In her post, Alanis also taunted fans with promises of “more international dates” soon.
Her June 29 show in Dublin followed by a Belfast gig June 30 has sparked speculation by fans that Alanis could be sneaking in a Glastonbury appearance June 27 or 28. It would be her first time at the hallowed Glastonbury, which is somewhat astonishing, given her status as something of a cultural icon and the continuing popularity of her 1995 album Jagged Little Pill.
Fans have been eager to share their hopes for her potential Glastonbury debut so far. “Dream headliner for me,” Georgie KB wrote, while Lilymaescloset mused, “I’m soo hoping for this!!!!! Well firstly so hoping I actually get a ticket!
Though all excited, nothing is confirmed yet. However, with other major acts such as Oasis already dismissing rumors that they would feature in the festival, there is more hope than ever for Alanis to feature in the 2025 line-up.
Now Glastonbury faces a big season in 2025, with the festival scheduled as a fallow year in 2026 – a tradition supposed to give the venue time to rest. Festival organizer Emily Eavis has already confirmed this break, making 2025’s lineup all the more critical for those who don’t want to have to wait two years to get their Glastonbury fix.
While the fans are patiently waiting for confirmation, Alanis does make references hinting that there is much more to 2025 than the currently confirmed dates. Whether this includes a performance at Glastonbury, only time will tell, but her teasing tour gap certainly has fans hoping that she’ll bring her iconic 90s hits to the Pyramid Stage. For now, they’ll have to sit tight and see if Alanis has something they “oughta know”.
