James Corden and Lily Allen are locking horns following her branding him a “beg friend”. Allen, 39, made the outrageous claim as she recounted their early exchanges on her “Miss Me?” podcast with Miquita Oliver. According to sources, Corden, back in the UK after a decade in the US, thought Allen’s revelations were “tacky”.
The tension comes following the string of controversies he— the 45-year-old— has found himself at the center of, which have included accusations of poor behavior and a perceived public persona that many believe comes off as insincere. A source close to Corden informed DailyMail.com that he did not have any beef with Allen’s criticism and simply brushed it off as another case of undeserved negativity towards him. The insider revealed that Corden believed Allen’s comments to be disrespectful and “a bit petty”.
Allen’s comments brought to the forefront what is believed to be a previous new meeting between themselves, one that Corden had written about in his 2011 memoir. He described how he was left feeling ‘awkward and out of place’ after the non-romantic tryst with Lily and that it made him realize he must have projectively misinterpreted the situation.
Speaking on her podcast, Allen called Corden’s attempts at friendship “beggy,” recalling his flirtatiousness in early friendship with Allen. She elaborated that she didn’t “lead him on in any way”, as he proposed she did on his book.
Corden’s most recent public image has been tarnished by various past incidents, such as being banned from the Balthazar restaurant in New York over allegations of speaking rudely. He first referred to the situation as “ridiculous,” then he apologized.
The drama has continued unabated and that is simply how it will remain: Corden moving about a battlefield of perception, where friends are won over with an uptended relationship with fame and friendships.
