Jack Black has given an update that he and his Tenacious D bandmate, Kyle Gass, are still okay despite their tour getting canceled abruptly last month. The duo played a string of dates around Australia in mid-July before Jack announced that the rest of their scheduled performances would be canceled. It came after Kyle made a controversial joke regarding an assassination attempt on former US president Donald Trump.
At one of their shows, Jack brought out a birthday cake and told Kyle to “make a wish,” and he said, “Don’t miss Trump next time.” Jack said he was “blindsided” by the remark from his friend, and the tour was canceled.
In an interview with Variety, Jack revealed, “We need to take a break. Everybody needs a break sometime. And we’ll be back.” He reassured that their friendship was fine, stating, “These things take time sometimes. And we’ll be back when it feels right.”
Jack posted earlier on his Instagram: “I was blind-sided by what was said at the show Sunday. I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form. After much reflection I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. Thank you to the fans for your understanding.”
Before the tour was scrapped, Tenacious D had been at work on a new album, their first since 2018’s “Post-Apocalypto.”.
