Meghan Markle Speaks Out on Mental Health and Launches Anti-Bullying Initiative

In a heartfelt appeal during an interview with CBS News Sunday Morning, Meghan Markle said that when people tell others they have had suicidal thoughts, they must be believed, reflecting on her difficult time with the royal family.

Meghan and Prince Harry have revealed a new project—The Parents Network—for the parents whose children have become victims of cyberbullying. Meghan spoke of her experiences, saying she would never want any person to feel disbelieved about their mental health struggles.

“When you’ve gone through pain or trauma, part of healing is being open about it. I haven’t fully shared my experience, but I want to make sure that no one else has to feel that way,” she said. “If my story can save someone or encourage real check-ins, it’s worth it. I’ll take a hit for that.”

Meghan reflected on her 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, where she discussed the mental health challenges and dark thoughts she experienced as a working member of the royal family. She shared that she had reached out for help, but this was denied because it would have looked bad for the institution.

Prince Harry told his Netflix audience in 2022 that he felt a load of guilt for not being there enough for Meghan at the worst times of her life. He confessed to feeling ripped between his royal duty and that of being a husband, thus, finally angering and shaming him as a man.

Speaking about their new project, the couple pointed out that their desire to be good parents to Archie and Lilibet was the real driving force. “Our kids are young, and all we want is to protect them. Having seen the dangers of the online space, we know there’s so much to be done, and we’re happy to be part of a positive change,” Meghan said.
