Inside Out 2 Tops the Charts as Highest-Grossing Animated Film Ever!

Move over, Elsa and Anna! Pixar’s Inside Out 2 has officially claimed the title of the highest-grossing animated film ever made!

Since its release six weeks ago, the film has raked in a whopping $1.46 billion worldwide, surpassing the previous record holder, Frozen 2, which reached $1.45 billion in 2019. This heartwarming (and sometimes hilarious) look into the emotional rollercoaster of adolescence is still playing in many countries, with its release in Japan just around the corner, so that number is expected to climb even higher!

Inside Out 2 even managed to outshine last year’s live-action juggernaut, Barbie, which stopped short at $1.45 billion. However, it’s worth noting that Disney’s 2019 remake of The Lion King, though technically computer-animated, isn’t considered an animated film by the studio and holds the top spot for a remake with a cool $1.65 billion.

Regardless of the technicalities, Inside Out 2 has become a massive global phenomenon, soaring to the 13th spot on the all-time highest-grossing films list. While it has a long way to go to dethrone titans like Avatar ($2.9 billion) and Avengers: Endgame ($2.7 billion), it’s a clear sign that audiences are connecting with this story about navigating the ups and downs of growing up.

The film has resonated with both children and adults alike, grossing over $600 million domestically and a staggering $861 million internationally, with the UK contributing a cool $61 million. So, if you haven’t already joined Riley and her crew on their emotional journey, be sure to grab some tissues (and maybe some popcorn) and head to the theaters!
