For Los Angeles based recording artist and songwriter Joseph Rutakangwa, the next chapter is about more than releasing new songs. It is about bringing the music, emotion and visual identity around it into one coherent world.
Rutakangwa began releasing music publicly in 2020, after the uncertainty of the pandemic forced him to confront how easily the things people plan to do “someday” can remain undone. Music had already been part of his life for as long as he could remember, shaped by a wide range of influences including soul, rock, Afropop, indie folk and Latin music. That summer, he decided to stop waiting and release his own.

Recent portraits introduce a bolder visual language around Rutakangwa. Oversized silhouettes, expressive styling and shadowed studio imagery move between confidence, introspection and playfulness. The objective is not to manufacture a new persona, but to let the visual world reflect the range already present in the music.
That distinction matters. Rutakangwa is not approaching this moment as a sudden reinvention. He has been releasing music for years. What has changed is the level of clarity behind it. After a period of experimentation, he is increasingly interested in what happens when songs, imagery and storytelling feel as though they belong to the same emotional universe.
The title, tracklist and release date of the forthcoming album remain unannounced. For now, the story is unfolding gradually, giving listeners time to discover the catalog that brought Rutakangwa here before the next body of work arrives.
His journey into recording began with a decision to stop postponing something he loved. Six years later, the ambition is different: not simply to make music, but to build a world around it that feels unmistakably his.
