Jacob Elordi has once again found himself at the centre of speculation surrounding the next James Bond, but the actor offered little encouragement to those hoping for confirmation. Appearing at the London premiere of The Dog Stars, Elordi was asked about reports linking him to the famous British spy role. Rather than engaging with the long-running rumours, the actor kept his response brief and made it clear that his visit to London was not, at least publicly, connected to the Bond franchise.
The 29-year-old actor attended the London premiere of The Dog Stars on Thursday as part of the promotional campaign for the upcoming film. With his appearance in the British capital inevitably drawing attention to the continuing search for Daniel Craig’s successor, questions about James Bond were almost unavoidable. When Variety asked whether he had used his time in London to discuss the coveted role, Elordi responded simply, “I’m here on holiday.”
The brief answer immediately attracted attention because Elordi has been one of the names repeatedly mentioned by fans and entertainment observers as a possible candidate for the next James Bond. His age, international profile and growing reputation as a leading actor have made him a natural subject of speculation as the franchise prepares for its next chapter.

The search for a new Bond has been underway since Daniel Craig completed his tenure as the character with No Time to Die in 2021. Craig’s departure marked the end of one of the longest and most successful eras in the history of the franchise, creating considerable curiosity about who will eventually inherit the role. Since then, numerous actors have been linked to the character, with Elordi remaining among the names that frequently appear in discussions surrounding the casting.
For Elordi, however, the rumours are nothing new. The actor was questioned about the possibility of playing Bond several years ago while promoting Saltburn. At the time, he appeared more amused than uncomfortable by the idea that audiences and the entertainment industry were imagining him as the legendary secret agent. Responding to the speculation in 2023, Elordi said, “Oh my goodness, wow. That’s beautiful. I just like that people maybe want to put me in their movies. That makes me really glad.”
His earlier response suggested that he was aware of the appeal of being associated with such a major cinematic character, even if there was no confirmation that he was actually being considered for the part. His latest comments in London are considerably less revealing. By describing himself as being in the city “on holiday,” Elordi avoided giving any indication of whether he has been involved in discussions about the future of the franchise.
The uncertainty surrounding the next Bond has also become part of the appeal surrounding the casting process. James Bond remains one of cinema’s most recognisable characters, and choosing a new actor is inevitably more complicated than simply finding someone capable of playing an action hero. The performer must be able to carry a major franchise while also bringing a distinctive personality to a character who has been portrayed by several actors across different eras.
The next Bond film is being developed by Amazon MGM Studios and has already assembled a high-profile creative team. Denis Villeneuve, known for films including Dune, Arrival, Sicario and Blade Runner 2049, is attached to direct the project. His involvement has added another layer of interest because his filmmaking style suggests that the next Bond film could take a different visual and dramatic approach from some of its predecessors.
Behind the scenes, the film is being produced by Amy Pascal through Pascal Pictures and David Heyman through Heyday Films, while Tanya Lapointe is serving as an executive producer. Steven Knight has also been selected to write the screenplay. Together, the names involved indicate that the next instalment is being positioned as a major cinematic event rather than simply another continuation of the existing formula.
Pascal has previously discussed the careful approach being taken to select Craig’s successor. She indicated that the filmmakers are taking their time before making a decision, particularly because following Craig is an unusually difficult task. “We are being really, really methodical. Having worked with Barbara Broccoli at the studio, I mean, Daniel Craig is a hard act to follow,” Pascal said.
She also suggested that the eventual choice could represent a noticeable change for the character and the franchise. According to Pascal, the new Bond should be “something really different that is a stirring and exciting and different.” Her comments have encouraged further speculation about whether the next actor could lead the series in a substantially new direction rather than attempting to recreate the version of Bond audiences became familiar with during Craig’s tenure.
