A judge in Nashville, Tennessee, granted the divorce this week after confirming that all legal requirements had been met. In court documents, Judge Stephanie J. Williams stated that there were “irreconcilable differences between the parties that would render continuation of the marriage impractical and impossible.” The couple did not attend the hearing, and their representatives declined to comment.

Kidman filed for divorce in September, a move that surprised many fans, though sources suggest that discussions around the separation had been ongoing privately for some time. All matters related to finances and child custody were reportedly agreed upon on the day of filing. Under Tennessee law, a mandatory 90-day waiting period applies when minor children are involved, which has now concluded.

Both aged 58, Kidman and Urban share two teenage daughters, who are expected to continue living in Nashville. According to the settlement, Kidman will be the primary residential parent. Neither child support nor spousal support will be exchanged, and the couple’s shared assets will be divided roughly equally.

The Australian-born stars first met in Los Angeles in 2005 and married in Sydney the following year. Over nearly two decades, they became a familiar and supportive presence on red carpets and at major industry events, often praising one another publicly. While they had occasionally spoken about working through challenges, there had been little public indication that a separation was imminent.

This was Urban’s first marriage. For Kidman, it marks her second divorce following her highly publicised marriage to Tom Cruise, whom she wed in 1990 and divorced in 2001. The former couple share two adopted children, Isabella and Connor. Kidman was just 23 at the time of that marriage, which came during the early years of her Hollywood rise after films like Top Gun propelled Cruise to global fame.

Reflecting on that period years later, Kidman acknowledged how young she was at the time. In a 2016 interview, she compared her early life choices to those of Taylor Swift, noting how different paths can unfold at similar ages and how those decisions shaped her life.

As both Kidman and Urban move forward, the end of their marriage appears to have been handled with discretion and mutual agreement—bringing a quiet close to one of Hollywood’s longest-lasting modern unions.
