Disability History Month serves as an important opportunity to recognise the resilience, talent, and diversity within the disabled community. Despite increased awareness, societal barriers, stigma, and misconceptions continue to limit opportunities and diminish visibility for many individuals, particularly those with non-visible or fluctuating conditions. Discrimination and misunderstanding remain prevalent challenges faced daily by this community.

On the 3rd December 2025, Adeshola had the opportunity to facilitate a hybrid session in observance of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Participating in this event, both online and in person, was a meaningful reminder of the importance of advocacy. It reaffirmed that there is significant strength and capability within disability. Although experiences vary, the contributions of disabled individuals are valuable, impactful, and deserving of recognition.

Disability encompasses a broad spectrum, including physical disabilities, sensory impairments, learning disabilities, mental health conditions, neurodivergence, chronic illnesses, and rare or complex health conditions. Some disabilities are visible; others are not. Some fluctuate daily, some require ongoing medical support, and others necessitate societal understanding and accommodations. This diversity highlights the richness of the disabled community, and every experience and story deserves acknowledgment.

Living with a disability often involves managing challenges discreetly, navigating stigma, coping with symptoms, masking, requesting necessary adjustments, and persevering through exhaustion or pain. These realities underscore the importance of kindness and understanding. We cannot always see what others are dealing with, nor appreciate the resilience required to engage fully each day.

Adeshola was also honoured to be featured in SwagHer Magazine in the article “Advocacy, Empowerment, and Redefining Strength,” which highlights her work in disability awareness and advocacy. Sharing authentic journey and amplifying the voices of others is a responsibility she takes seriously and with pride.

Additionally, she was invited to participate as a panel speaker at next year’s Neurodiversity in Medicine event within the NHS. This invitation reflects progress in conversations around neurodivergence and underscores the need to foster healthcare environments that truly understand, support, and celebrate neurodivergent professionals and patients.

Disability Month is not solely a time for reflection but a reminder that disabled individuals belong in all sectors, leadership, medicine, education, fashion, entrepreneurship, media, and beyond. Their innovation, empathy, creativity, and lived experiences enrich communities and drive systemic change.

As we observe this month, let us commit to breaking down barriers, challenging stereotypes, and ensuring that all individuals feel seen and heard. Let us uplift each other, advocate with confidence, and recognise that disability can represent strength, identity, and empowerment.

When society becomes more disability inclusive, accessible, and understanding, everyone benefits.
