Paris Jackson has strongly criticized the upcoming biopic Michael, based on the life of her father, pop legend Michael Jackson. The 27-year-old singer and actress clarified that she had “zero percent involvement” in the project, dismissing claims that she supported the film and accusing it of presenting a distorted, “sugar-coated” version of events.
Her comments came shortly after actor Colman Domingo, who portrays Jackson family patriarch Joe Jackson, praised Paris and her brother Prince for allegedly supporting the movie. While speaking at the Venice Film Festival’s amfAR benefit gala, Domingo described Paris as “lovely and warm,” suggesting she had been helpful during production.
Paris quickly rejected that narrative in an Instagram post.
“Don’t be telling people I was ‘helpful’ on the set of a movie I had zero percent involvement in — that is so weird,” she wrote. She revealed she had once reviewed an early draft of the script and shared concerns about inaccuracies. “When they didn’t address it, I moved on with my life,” she added.
In follow-up posts, Paris elaborated, saying the filmmakers explicitly told her they would not be incorporating her feedback.
“A big section of the film panders to a very specific part of my dad’s fandom that still lives in the fantasy, and they’re gonna be happy with it,” she said. Criticizing Hollywood’s biopic culture, she added, “The narrative is being controlled, there’s a lot of inaccuracy, and there are full-blown lies. Go enjoy it, do whatever, but leave me out of it.”
The film, produced with the Jackson estate’s involvement, has been in development since 2019. It has faced scrutiny after reports suggested rewrites and reshoots were needed due to legal concerns over storylines related to Michael Jackson’s accusers — a claim the production team has denied.
Michael Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, will make his acting debut in the title role, with a cast that includes Miles Teller, Nia Long, and Kat Graham. Michael is scheduled for release on April 24, 2026.
