We had the opportunity to sit down with Joydeep Pal, a growth-focused entrepreneur whose expertise bridges technology, AI/ML, consumer services, and sustainability. As the founder of Foodinjoy, Joydeep is reimagining the food sector by leveraging AI, data-driven solutions, and a deep-rooted mission to improve both lives and business outcomes. With an impressive track record spanning technology, healthcare, and public sector transformations, Joydeep’s work centers around solving problems that matter with innovation, clarity, and purpose.

In this feature, Joydeep shares the driving forces behind his vision, how he balances big-picture goals with daily execution, and the deeper motivations that fuel his entrepreneurial journey.

What drives your mission and vision? What core values or beliefs guide the way you run your business? How do you approach challenges, growth, and innovation—and what keeps you motivated when things get tough?

Joydeep Pal:

During my time at the University as a Warden, I observed that students and younger generations lead poorer lifestyles due to fundamental knowledge gaps in cooking or life skills. They were under duress as they moved out of houses for the first time and started exploring the world. Over the years, I realised their lives can be made better by helping them with the right information at the right time. These can be in the form of how to get their food and grocery shopping with the best offers in the vicinity or what to cook with the extra food they bought and might throw in the bin as they get bored. While at the same time, businesses were losing money and the world valuable food resources; I decided to challenge this status quo envisioning a sustainable retail enablement in the UK food and grocery sector. This led to the birth of Foodinjoy.

Core Values or Beliefs
At Foodinjoy, we strongly believe that technology, as a tool, can help us in becoming the voice of the consumer while activating sustainable business models. We wanted to bring a fresh perspective to solve a major riddle in the very mature food and grocery sector—how do we cater to the changing consumer (in particular, Gen Z) needs and how do we ensure less food wastage happens in the supply chain? With a strong background in research, AI, and supply chain, I set out to revolutionise the sector.

Your Views When Things Get Tough
I perceive any challenge, or problem, as an unsolved mystery waiting for the right key. With the surpassing growth of technology, we can now revisit and rethink our age-old models. That can be in the form of better efficiency and optimization or even, new innovative approaches. Challenges inspire me to push forward and experiment with different scenarios. We first need to define the problem in first principles and then create hypotheses and test solutions. I truly believe unless we can define a problem in simple terms to a kid, we are not yet ready to go to finding solutions. When we move out of our comfort zones and start pushing the boundaries, we unlock new opportunities for growth and innovation.

Joydeep’s mission is rooted in a human-first approach to technology, focusing on solving everyday challenges in a way that brings tangible value to both consumers and businesses. His work with Foodinjoy is a reflection of this,  marrying AI innovation with sustainability and consumer empowerment.

How do you balance vision and execution? How do you manage long-term goals while staying on top of daily operations and short-term demands?

Joydeep Pal:
We all have a vision from our childhood and execution is like the baby steps you take towards that goal. Vision is something which keeps you awake in the middle of the night and trying to do something bigger than yourself. However, the true magic happens in execution when you can see those ideas start coming to reality. To me, both these terms go hand in hand; one cannot survive without the other. Well, that being said, you can be good at execution, yet without a true purpose or vision, you will stagnate and the work will become without its soul.
I thrive to balance both, unless you keep your short-term and long-term in sync, you will be out of sync in everything. When you embark on a startup journey with a bigger vision, people will either mock you or not trust you at all. You need to build it bit by bit with the daily operational grind and the quick wins. Over time, you slowly build your self-confidence and people start trusting in you and your vision. To me, daily operational grind keeps you on track to your final destination of your vision; A 1% deviation in the short term can create a major deviation in your pathway long term, just like any flight will undergo.

Joydeep’s philosophy blends practicality with ambition, recognizing that bold visions are only realised through disciplined, consistent action. His ability to align daily execution with long-term impact is what keeps Foodinjoy on a steady path of growth and innovation.
