The much-awaited movie about Michael Jackson’s life, titled Michael, is expected to be pushed to 2026 instead of its original release date. The film, directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Michael’s nephew Jaafar Jackson in his first acting role, was initially set to come out in October 2025. However, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer recently shared that the studio might delay the release to strengthen their 2027 lineup.
During a financial meeting, Feltheimer said, *”We’re excited about the 3 1/2 hours of amazing footage from producer Graham King and director Antoine Fuqua, and we will be announcing a definitive release strategy & timing in the next few weeks.”* He also hinted that the movie might not arrive before April 1, 2026, because the studio’s financial year ends on March 31.
Why the Delay?
The decision to push back the release seems to be a strategic move by Lionsgate. The studio wants to make sure the film performs well financially. There have also been reports that the movie could be split into two parts, which might be another reason for the delay.
