Sony has introduced an official PS5 rental program in the UK, partnering with leasing company Raylo to make the console more accessible. Available through the PlayStation Direct website, the service offers flexible leasing options for the PS5 Digital Edition, PS5 with a disc drive, and the PS5 Pro.

Customers can choose between 12-, 24-, or 36-month contracts, as well as a rolling monthly plan. Longer commitments come with lower monthly fees, with the PS5 Digital Edition starting at just £11 per month on a 36-month lease. Meanwhile, a rolling contract for the PS5 Pro costs £35.59 per month. Leasing is also available for PlayStation Portal and the PS VR2 headset, which recently received a price cut.

Raylo includes a lifetime warranty with each device and won’t charge extra for minor wear and tear. However, penalties apply for significant damage. Users can cancel anytime, though an early termination fee applies if canceled within the first 18 months (excluding a 14-day grace period).

While leasing can make the PS5 more affordable upfront, long-term costs could exceed the price of purchasing the console outright. Some lease agreements offer an option to buy the device at the end of the term, continue renting, or upgrade—potentially aligning with the expected launch of the PS6 in 2028.

This move follows Microsoft’s approach with Xbox Series X/S, which has offered monthly payment plans from launch, bundling Game Pass Ultimate and allowing users to keep the console after completing payments.
