Tom Cruise has left fans in suspense again, this time over the prospects of the much-loved Mission: Impossible franchise. During a recent interview, he presented some interesting glimpses into the future of the blockbuster series while carefully not committing to a definitive response.
During his talk with Empire Magazine, he was asked whether Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning will be the end of the fast-paced saga. Instead of making it plain for the public, he opted to keep it shrouded in mystery and, therefore, implored people to go see the movie in order to finally find out the truth. It’s a hard thing for me to talk about right now, because it really is something that you have to experience,” Cruise said, his words dripping with the kind of suspense that has become synonymous with the franchise. Further adding to the intrigue, he also described the much-awaited sequel as “an epic, emotional journey of the whole franchise,” in which the themes of the movie will be presented in a sense that is great and yet utterly personal. Thus, this again has sparked some speculations, and fans who were already ready to see whatever happens next become even more expectant.
Director Christopher McQuarrie, who has been a central creative force in the last Mission: Impossible films, was a little more forthcoming. He didn’t say that The Final Reckoning would be the final installment of the series, but he seemed to suggest it could be, given the span of the entire 30 years of the narrative. No one should forget his commitment to performing incredible stunts, often at great personal risk, which established a new benchmark for action films and helped him to take his position among the most dedicated actors in Hollywood. It’s bittersweet for fans: the prospect of The Final Reckoning being the last Mission: Impossible film is something that is both hard to imagine and impossible to imagine. One hand cannot be imagined without Ethan Hunt at the helm of the franchise, but on the other, there’s a sense that the series deserves a proper send-off, one that honors its legacy while delivering the kind of thrills that have made it a global phenomenon.
