The long-awaited Spice Girls biopic is one step closer to reality, with Netflix now leading the charge to bring the iconic group’s story to life. The streaming giant plans to release the project in 2026, marking the 30th anniversary of their debut single, Wannabe.

Over the past six months, Suzanne Mackie, head of Netflix-owned Orchid Pictures and a powerhouse behind acclaimed projects like The Crown and Calendar Girls, has been in talks with the Spice Girls. Despite not performing as a full five-piece since 2012, Netflix executives remain optimistic about involving all members of the legendary girl group in the creative process.

A TV insider revealed, “Netflix is eager for the Spice Girls to provide as much input as possible, given their status as pop culture royalty. However, the streaming platform has proven with projects like The Crown that they’re not afraid to move forward independently if necessary.”

While the biopic is still in its early stages, the hope is to reunite all five members to collaborate with producers and contribute to the story. Netflix’s involvement, paired with Suzanne Mackie’s expertise, promises to inject fresh Girl Power into the production and deliver a celebration worthy of the Spice Girls’ lasting legacy.
