Speaking in an interview, Jim Carrey talked about why he is returning to the “Sonic the Hedgehog” franchise after hinting at retirement from acting. He claims that he needs the money, frankly. The actor plays again the eccentric and funny Dr. Robotnik in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3.”.
Carrey made these candid remarks at the UK premiere of the film in London. When asked by the Associated Press about his decision to return, he explained, “I came back to this universe because, first of all, I get to play a genius, which is a bit of a stretch. And, you know, it’s just, I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly.”
This is after statements in 2022 with Access Hollywood while confirming his retirement in acting. “Well, I’m retiring. Yeah, probably. I’m being fairly serious. It depends. If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I’m taking a break.”
He continued to expound on a desire for less hectic life, saying, “I really like my quiet life and I really like putting paint on canvas, I really love my spiritual life and I feel like — and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists — I have enough. I’ve done enough. I am enough.”
However, it appears Carrey’s retirement was a bit overstated. When questioned over his previous statements, he simply noted, “That might have been hyperbole.”
In “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik teams with Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles to face an even bigger menace: Shadow the Hedgehog, voiced by Keanu Reeves.
Of course, Carrey’s candor about his monetary motivations has sparked a lot of discussion. Though some people may find his confession surprising, it does provide a welcome look into what truly happens in Hollywood.
