Jamie Foxx Opens Up About Near-Fatal Health Scare

Jamie Foxx, the Academy Award-winning actor, has opened up about the health scare that he faced in April 2023, which was kept under wraps. Recently, in his Netflix comedy special, “Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was.”, the 56-year-old opened up regarding the terrifying ordeal, its emotional impact on him, and his family.

While shooting for the new comedy “Back in Action” with Cameron Diaz, Foxx started having a headache. His friends took him to a doctor in Atlanta, who administered a cortisone shot and told him to go home. However, his sister, Deidra Dixon, suspected that something was seriously wrong.

Foxx said he wasn’t happy with the care he got initially, calling for better attention. Then came praise for the people in Piedmont Hospital, to where his sister took him. They literally saved his life, just a little way from the theater where he filmed his special.

By the time Foxx arrived at the hospital, he had collapsed. His sister was shocked to know that he had a brain bleed which caused him to have a stroke. The doctors warned his sister that if they didn’t operate on him immediately, they would lose him.

Foxx vividly recounts his unconsciousness experience. He remembered a dreamy, calming condition and even joked about seeing a tunnel and taking the devil to be Sean Combs.

Until the release of his Netflix special, Foxx kept private details of his health crisis that generated much speculation and worry for his fans. He told them that in May he woke up, immobile in a wheelchair with no idea of what had occurred. He had been told by doctors that he may recover fully, but that is going to be quite the journey.

As he got accustomed to the new reality, Foxx found the humor in this situation as well as started joking about his concern with privacy to his female nurse. He also cited how his faith and sense of humor played a major role in getting him out of that whole situation.

“Back in Action” is going to be released on January 17th, and “What Had Happened Was.” is available now on Netflix.
