There’s a strong Gale heading straight for Woodsboro! Excitement is building for Scream VII as several big updates have come in over the last few weeks. Among the most thrilling is the news that Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Frozen Empire breakout star McKenna Grace has joined the cast. Along with Grace, Mason Gooding, who plays the seemingly indestructible Chad Meeks-Martin in the rebooted franchise, will also be returning.
Now, Variety has confirmed that Scream icon Courtney Cox is officially set to reprise her role as the fearless reporter Gale Weathers in Kevin Williamson’s upcoming slasher sequel.
Back in March, we reported that Cox was in talks to return to the franchise, and with Neve Campbell’s confirmed return as Sidney Prescott and rumors about Patrick Dempsey possibly bringing back Mark Kincaid, Cox’s return was always looking more likely. With this key piece of the puzzle now in place, Scream VII is beginning to take shape, and fans are eagerly awaiting what’s to come after a turbulent behind-the-scenes year.
Although plot details are still under wraps, the recent departures of reboot leads Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega last year leave the future of the film somewhat uncertain. However, with fresh faces like Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, and Isabel May joining the cast — with May playing one of Sidney’s daughters — there’s plenty for both longtime Scream fans and newcomers to get excited about.
The big question is how Scream VII will fare in the post-Barrera and Ortega era. Fans won’t have to wait long to find out, as the film slashes its way into cinemas on Friday, February 27, 2026.
